half a dozen of another. LOL
Apo, I whole heartedly agree that a scribe's primary duty should always be to welcome and assist newcomers to the site. But, there will be those times when there aren't scribes online, or they are participating in a chat, or they are working on a special project, and they can't. That's where it would be great to have a back up plan.
We've heard comments from more than a few SE's that they still wish to participate and contribute to the site but are unsure how and what to do. This would give them that direction. The difference between SE's and Scribes is that participation is not mandatory - if any of the SE's wish to enjoy their retirement, bask about the pool, sip their mint juleps and play shuffleboard, they are welcome to do so.
Another plus is that we could utilize any interested SE in filling any unexpired term of a scribe who either resigned or went AWOL and never responded to any of our emails. While we'd really like to utilize as many of the members of the site and do encourage folks to get involved, there are times when we either need someone quickly.
