This afternoon I finished reading The Devil's Horsemen: The Mongol Invasion of Europe by James Chambers and I really enjoyed it. Mr. Chambers really provided a good overall view of the Mongol army, their tactics (when I grow up I want to be Subedei), their engagements, the state of the European nations at the time and most importantly, the impact the Mongols made on those European nations. He doesn't simply stop at the death of Ogedei either, but continues on until Kubilai becomes Khan and ventures into the Mongol incursions into the Levant and how they effected the crusader state and Europe. I'd really recommend this book to anyone wishing to learn about the overall aspect of the Mongol invasion into Europe, I definitely found this book to be a wise purchase. *g*
On a brief side-note, I'm in awe. The Mongols are my heroes. If there was any time to be a warrior it would have been with the Mongol army, especially under Subedei, Chingis and Batu. Brilliant, bloody brilliant and more than simply amazing. *g*
