Taylor awoke with a quick startle. A door had been slammed, and he could here a ship taking off outside. It was done; Rex had left. The sun was just beginning to rise over the city and was seeping into his room. Taylor began to sit up, his chest screaming out as he did. He swung his legs around and sat at the edge of the bed, trying desperately to pull together all of his strength.
He slowly began to stand, rejecting every cell in his body, which were trying to keep him down. As he straightened, he looked down at the bandages wrapped around his chest. There was fresh blood beginning to seep through. Dam it, he thought, he had reopened part of the wound.
Standing there now, he pushed the pain aside, mentally forcing himself to move. It was like a trance for him, knowing what he was doing, but not fully registering in. He slowly moved down the hall, holding the wall as he went. As he approached her slightly ajar door, he could see her standing at the balcony, watching the sun begin to rise.
Slowly he made his way across the room, apparently unnoticed by her. As he came up behind her, he placed his hands on her shoulders, slowly moving them down to her hands. She shuttered at his first touch, but did not move. He wrapped his arms slowly around her waist, locking them together above her stomach. She slowly turned in her place, meeting his eyes. For a long moment, they stood there, gazing at each other, telling each other a life time of information and understanding without even moving their lips. Then he did, locking his lips to hers, pulling her in tight, and doing the first thing in his life that ever felt right.
