Taylor didn’t know what to do. Sitting up like this was draining his strength and fast. But he didn’t want to leave her if she needed him. He didn’t know what to do; let her be, comfort her, express his feelings now while there was an opening. Taylor had never been a sensitive person; his career choice had never left much room for such things.
He reached out to touch her arm and start to apologize, but she immediately stood, not making eye contact with him, and left the room. He should have known better, for nothing would be consoling at a time like this.
As Taylor fell back onto the bed and began to fade into sleepiness, his mind began to race with a great many things. She didn’t love this man, and while she didn’t say she loved him, that was still better than having her love someone else. As sleep eventually over took him, he began to dream of great happiness, not know what dangers would be on the horizon.
