Chief Joseph's Grave is in a town thirteen miles from my home.Chief Joseph is in a Nez Perce cemetery in the town of Nespelem, on the Colville Indian Reservation in Okanogan County WA. Buried here are many participants of the Nez Perce War of 1877, including younger Chief Joseph and Yellow Wolf. Chief Joseph and many of his people came here to live about 1885. This cemetery is still an active cemetery.
To reach the cemetery, turn onto the Keller Rd from Hwy 155 one block, then left which will proceed uphill winding around to the cemetery. In the center of the cemetery you will find the tall upright headstone which has the inscription on it, listed first below. A few blocks away, just off of Hwy 155, a monument has been erected to honor Chief Joseph. The site is administered by the Colville Confederated Tribes.
