Has anyone ever actually had mead? It really is delicious...and its strong honey-laced alcohol smell will definitely wake you up if you're groggy!
I for one want to make myself more active with Angelcynn this year as I continue my casual studies of Old English and other old Germanic languages, literatures, cultures, etc.
A good question, Oswiu: Is there any aspect we'd like to pick to focus on in coming months? (Not that we can't post about anything else if it strikes our fancy, of course.)
Hmm. You know, since that Thousand Years' Faire is coming up in May, maybe we could focus on the later years of Anglo-Saxon England, leading up to the Norman Invasion (something his Excellency Bishop MerlintheMad knows a bit about).
Other ideas:
- the interplay of religion, Christian and pagan, in the various A-S tribes
- the Old English Riddles. We could post a riddle every [insert time period here], in OE and modern English, and see who can figure it out first.
- Beowulf. (I just never get tired of talking about it.)
- other literature (there is quite a ton)
- Anglo-Saxon art or weapons or something
- portrayals in modern film or books
Just some ideas to get us thinking. Thanks for the prod, Oswiu. :-)
