for pointing out how Mandos not only grows, but shrinks. Also the point of how an elf can not return to Arda if his or her spouse remarries.

The story behind this can be found in Morgoth's Ring, one of the books in the History of Middle Earth series. I think the essay is called Laws and Customs of the Elves, but I am not sure.
