Taylor caught sight of her the moment he walked into Quantum 4. He strode casually across the room, taking up the seat opposite her in the booth. As they went back and forth with the usual pleasantries, they began to reminisce about old times with the senator. Something began to twitch inside Taylor.
He had tried so hard lately to convince himself that he was better alone and that he never needed others. Ever since he had parted with the senator, he had walled himself in, shutting out all others, and making himself cold. But sitting there, talking with Angel, smiling without it being for show, and actually enjoying the company of another, he realized he could not kill her, the only friend he still had in the whole universe.
Taylor took a sip of the drink a droid had brought him. He began to speak again, planning to ask who would want her dead, when someone interrupted him.
“Finally, I have you both together,” came a high pitched voice of a droid. Taylor recognized it as T-139 model; old military.
Taylor quickly glanced to Angel, noticing she was as confused as he was. “And you are?” Taylor asked.
“My name is of little consequence to you. I am the one who hired you to kill her,” Said the droid. Taylor caught a look of shock and confusion in Angel as the droid went on. “I took on two separate bounties, one for each of you, and I knew that the best way to get you together was to hire you to kill her for me. When you came to collect your reward, I would then finish you myself.”
Taylor interrupted,” Ah, but I didn’t kill her”
“Yes, a conclusion that still dose not compute,” said the droid. “You have had ample opportunities to kill her, but have not. Most peculiar indeed. So, when I saw you follow her here, I decided to just finish you both off to…”
The droid never got to finish his lecture. Taylor and Angel had both fired at it from under the table, incinerating it. Taylor Smiled at Angel. “Well, now that’s taken care of, perhaps we should go somewhere else to finish our conversation. Killing a droid in a droid run bar may not fare well for long. Shall we?” And he stood, waiting for her reply.
