    So are there any views out there on the part played by religion in the polarisation of the factions around the Saxon advent and the slide of Britania back towards a pagan tradition?

    Was not being Christian a significat unifying force drawing the various Germainc groups / tribes together?

    Is it possible that divisions amoung the christian factions between the celtic monastic traditions and the re-emerging western catholic church lead to civil war and a weakened british society?
