I sent an email to Jot recently with a suggestion I had for encouraging patronage. We're always looking for ways to do this, but some of the ones we have seem to limit the very things we need to make people more active. Group limits are good...the desire to join more using my main persona was what made me get my first patronage. But that can be gotten around by creating yet another alternate. Limiting communication thru gram limits is not as good in my opinion, because we need communication so people make friends and come back. Besides, people can and do get around this by using an instant messenger service. It's just grams are better when you first meet someone, because most of us don't want everyone we meet at AW on our contacts list. I don't really need my own chatroom, and (again) people get around the privacy issues of the public chatrooms by using instant messaging. I like having, but don't NEED a gram log.
So my suggestion was that the ability to edit your own posts forever be made a feature of patronage. To me, the three minute limitation has been the single worst design feature of AW since the day I joined. Being able to edit my own posts is a biggie, in my opinion, that might encourage people to get a patronage to lift this and other limits. To me, it would be better than creating a zillion edit-impaired alternates.
As a scriba emeritus, I don't miss the ability to edit public boards or hoods, etc. But not being able to edit my own posts is once again a major irritation...worse, perhaps, after having been a scribe. I do NOT want nor allow others to edit my words. So, if I make a mistake, I'm either forced to delete and begin again or leave the mistake. It's really a pain. This would have been a mighty enticement to me at the beginning and I think it would be a great feature to offer people. If the system can recognize me enough to let me delete my own posts, perhaps it can be made to let me edit my own. I've asked Jot. I know he's extremely busy with a real life project right now, so I haven't heard back from him yet. We'll see if his interest is piqued.
