I think I am in love! All my life I have dreamt of meeting a handsome stranger from across the sea who would sweep me off my feet. Now he's here! Now if only I can convince the itinerant bard to stay in Dunadd.
Between helping mother with the cooking and serving family and guests, I flirted shamelessly all evening with the seannachie called SummerIsle. Though not openly! I may be the cook's daughter, but Conla the Brehon is my father and the MacRoth's brother. I must take a care, or my father will turn his wrath toward my new lover and satirise him in front of everyone, and possibly even raise blisters on his skin. That is sure to be the quickest way to send potential suitors running the other way.
I say "lover" with confidence, for SummerIsle returned my overtures with enthusiasm all evening and now we are stumbling arm-in-arm toward his hut under the brightly lit night sky. I swear I have never seen so many stars! Cúchulainn's Sword looks to be on fire. I point it out to my lover and say, "It must be a sign. You are meant to be in Dunadd."
He charms me with his musical laugh and nuzzles my neck as he carries me across his threshold. Suddenly I am as nervous as a newborn colt and try to bolt. He soothes me with sweet words and draws me masterfully toward him. I melt into his warm embrace and allow him to take me places I've only ever dreamed existed. Though a tiny voice in the back of my head is whispering cautionary words about the possible consequences, I know this night is meant to be. I saw it in the stars!
