    People who followed the brehon laws would foster their children out until age 17. In the marriage of equals, both parents had to agree as to fosterage details.

    I'd be interested in knowing if this applied only to those up in the hierarchy, or if it was applicable to society as a whole. Were ALL children of individuals to whom brehon law applied expected to be raised in foster care?
