Welcome to Kunjarazdôz, and also to Ancient Worlds. Indeed, having the original to compare with a translation is always very instructive, and especially with Old English which sometimes is so near modern English that all it takes is to read aloud one passage to guess the meaning. I've been reading the text that can be found on the site Beowulf on Steorarume and it is very helpful, if I have the patience to read each verse a couple of times and think about it before I read the translation.
