Every episode ... several times ... and I don't recall any of those things being actually explained in the series. I remember the wedding ceremony, for instance, but they don't tell you why they're doing what they're doing. So, for those who haven't seen the series, I wouldn't worry about it. I doubt having seen or not seen the series is going to help anyone.
