My problem with the treatment of GoF is that there is so much material on OotP and then HBP that covering material from GoF in OotP is going to mean removing info from OotP. So that gets moved to HBP, which will take away from the seventh movie.
Originally, GoF was suppose to be two movies. I knew when they made it one movie that they were going to have issues. I had no problem with dumping the house elf plotline. I didn't even find it that problematic that they skipped over the Barty Crouch Jr escape from Azkaban plotline. I actually liked that they added Neville into the movie, although it does decrease what I suspect is going to be Nevilles sudden emergence as a highly competent(sp) Wizard in book 7.
But to leave out the Fudge/Dumbledore confrontation is inexcusable. To change Dumbledore's speech regarding Cedric and the return of Voldemort strikes me as criminal. There are ways to deal with Harry being not trust worthy easily enough in OotP (people can reference Daily Prophet articles in the first bunch of scenes).
I was ok with it when I first saw it but then I started re-reading the book (I always do after the movies) and went, well, bonkers.
