Part of what I'm finding is that there is significant animal rescue work going on in the area of Lake Yaxha in Guatemala.

    Scarlet Macaws
The link is to an image of scarlet Macaws from UC Davis.

The Scarlet Macaw is from this area and endangered as well. There is a group, Macaws without Borders, who apparently work with rescuing chicks and taking care of jueveniles and adults.

There are jaguar rescue agencies (many get hit by cars), and Jaguar (the car manufactuer) has provided money. Additionally one of the uninhabited islands in the Lake has apparently been turned into a rehabilitation center for spider and howler monkeys.

When the economy goes bad locally, there is an increase in animals getting hurt because of people taking them from the jungle and trying to sell them - there have been reports from the rescue groups of finding sick, malnurished and dehydrated animals. So far I've come across nothing on the croccodiles in the lake, but maybe that is good news.
