As we exit the cab, we come upon the gardens, large and beautiful. There must be at least a hundred people here, all dressed to the nines. There is a white building to the left of the gardens, tall and made of glass- I had never seen such a place!

Omar and I walk to the man at the door of the garden, handing him the invitation.

"Mister Maughm," the man says to us. "A pleasure to see you. Welcome to Frangipanni Gardens."

We enter through the archway. In the center of the gardens is a large fountain, scores of people dancing around it. Tables surround the floor, and any place left is filled with flowers.

There is a tall, blonde man in the corner, surrounded by people, shaking hands as if he were greeting them. I presume that this is Von Kramer.

"Well dear," Omar whispers. "This is where we part."

I stand on toe and kiss his cheek. "Good luck, darling!" I smile. He smiles in return and then dissapears into the crowd.

Taking a drink, I position myself near the Kramer fellow. He was not going to leave my sight.

People continue dancing in the ballroom.

"Look at how she dances with the prince!" I hear a girl my age whisper to a friend. I looked up to see, but then turned back. I couldn't allow myself to be distracted- I had to watch Von Kramer!
