We got her back to our room, and I went to work. Another man was assisting me, someone who had been a paramedic in the Great War. I wish now that I could remember their name- I was too lost to remember at the time.
The bullet seemed to enter through her back and go through her front. There is a main artery line here, and I am happy that it was missed.
I tell the man to inform Mr. Djari that the bullet peirced completly through. Perhaps they could find it and trace it to a weapon.
Rose loses much blood, and I have none here to give her. Instead, I feed her iron. She goes into cardiac arrest, but we are able to bring her back. I bandage her up the best that I can, but this is beyond me. If she doesn't get better care and medications, she'll lose the baby.
"I will take her back to London," I say to the front desk. "We will check out this night, leave as soon as possible. She is out of my hands."
The plane arrives from London, and an associate of mine comes to my side. Together, we load Rose to the plane.
I turn to Mr. Djari, Mr. MacRoth, and Ms. Baket.
"You have been of great help to us," I say to them, "and I am sorry that I cannot help more. We will not return for some time, definetly after the baby is born."
There are handshakes all around, and then I am in the air, besides my dear wife. Who could do such a thing? Who could hurt such a beautiful, innocent woman?
This wasn't the time for that. For now, I must keep her alive.
As we lift, I watch outside as the pyramids fade in the distance.
Goodbye, Cairo.
