One of the major passtmes of the Warrior Class was the playing of "Knucklebones". According to some of the old tales and descriptions, the game was originally played with the actual bones (I believe they were "carpals" from various animals. These were roughly cubical and were marked with various symbols or numbers.
As near as we can understand, some of the games were much like our modern "throwing of the dice". Cubes of baked clay, marked with spots, were introduced from the middle eastern regoins of the Roman Empire, possibly originating from Persia.
What better way to while away the long winter nights than to sit at the table with good friends, good stories, good ale, and a good game of knucklebones?
