Gothic Songs
(Yes, I actually went to the trouble of looking up both a grammar and a dictionary of Gothic on line to be able to write those two words as, I think, grammatically correct.)
I can't judge the Gothic pronunciation, but I did listen to a bunch of his Old English stuff with the text in front of me. A decent job, on the whole. His pronunciation gives the overall impression of an American pronouncing a foreign language: his pronunciation of the letter 'u' is very open, sounding like the 'u' in "ummm..." instead of the pre-Vowel Shift 'ooo' like in "dune"; the 'y' is reduced to 'ooo' instead of being more frontal like the German 'ü'; the 'h' in words like Dryhten sounds like English 'sh' instead of like German 'ch' (So Dryhten sounds like "drooshtin"). Still, I'm being picky; it's actually quite good, as far as I can tell. It's neat to hear a rendition of chanted old Germanic with harp accompaniment. It's not exactly the number one radio request these days, so when anyone gives it a try, I'm grateful. *S*
