Reading Kallistos' post on Early Greek Music is a reminder that whatever similarity early Renaissance music may have to modern (e.g. Baroque & Classical Music), it probably has little in common with ancient Greek music. It would be interesting to know how much relevance the analysis in Gufurio's late-15th century woodcut & theory (see my post on it in the Pythagaros thread) bears to ancient Greek lyres, theories & practice. And what are the implications of this for understanding the changes in cosmology & the so-called "Music of the Spheres" from Pythagoras to the Renaissance? Whew!
