    Now that you mention it, Lepidina, I haven't seen that many bronze rings with the legion's number on them. The numbered legion rings seem to be primarily found in silver. But I have seen some interesting bronze rings with unusual symbols - magical, religious or perhaps denoting some subgroup. A lot of these seem to turn up in eastern Europe, the sort of outposts of empire, so perhaps I assumed wrongly these were the detritus of the legions.

    I've posted this inquiry elsewhere but this seems like the group that might know - does anyone know what "VOT" inscribed on a (silver) ring could mean? I've usually seen it paired with "MARTI" - as vow to Mars, etc. but not just "vot" by itself. Just curious...
