It had seemed like an age since Pompey had left Spain to meet Caesar and as he returned to one of his provincial capitals he knew that there would be a lot of correspondance for him to reply to but when he got to his office he found that there was nothing new apart from the normal status reports from around Hispania... Pompeius found this curious
He called his Praefectus Castrorum, who had been left in charge during his absence, to his office. He informed him that Titus Labienus had sent word asking for three cohorts of infantry, each with an alae of cavalry, immediately to Pompelo.
"Well, send them immediately." Pompeius ordered
"They have already left, my lord." The Praefectus Castrorum said with some nervousness in his voice
"What!?!" Pompeius replied with some indignation
"I sent them to Pompelo nearly three days ago."
A silence filled with tension followed as Pompeius starred a whole in his underling. At length, the general said
"Good. Keep me apprised of their progress, get me a report on the state of the troops here in Tarraco and send in a dispatch rider immediately."
The sigh of relief in the Praefectus Castrorum was more than obvious. He quickly saluted and turned to leave. Pompeius called him back
"And one more thing... don't ever do that again"
