The tale of Elwing and Eärendil has always been a personal favorite. Both characters are very giving and go through personal sacrifice for the greater good. The tale is a most romantic one (in the true literary sense of the word- not the Fabio grocery store 'luv' story sense of the word). It moves me every time I read it.
