The Royal Diaries
WEETAMOO
Heart of the Pocassets
By Patricia Clark Smith
This is a wonderful fictional account of the diaries of young women in history.
"Weetaoo is a unique subject in the Royal Diaries. Unlike other young women of the series she did not read or write. Her people had other ways of recording that which was of importance to them.
Above all they were an oral culture."
This gives much information about life in seventeenth century Massachusetts. This is the story of a brilliant Native American leader in her girlhood. Her thoughts and experienses are imagined, but it gives a sense of the wisdom of the Wampanoag people. This is a fictional account of the real Weetamoo.
Much about the series, and the history of Weetamoo as an adult woman, can be found online.
