Sting is an ancient sword made elves during the First Age.
It was later lost during the fall of Gondolin.
During the time it was lost, its owner would have used it as a knife, but as hobbits are quite smaller then the average man, it would have suited them as quite a wonderful sword.

As everything else designed by elves, Sting symbolises the designs found n nature and has therefore been made to track the shape of a leaf and it’s steam.

The hand grip of Sting is made of wood inlaid with silver, decorated with stylised plants and leafs, twisting along it which also help to strengthen it as well as decorate it with a unparalleled workmanship.
It’s scabbard is also decorated with leaves and plants of metal.

As well as other elven blades she glows in a bright blue, announcing the presence of Orcs and is specially ruthless when inflicting injury on anyone born of Sauron’s malice.
It was also an extremely important tool when Frodo and Sam fought of the horrible spider Shelob in her lair.

To add strength and magid to Sting, the following inscription was carved into it’s blade and guard:

    "Sting is my name
    I am the spider’s bane."
