Zeffirelli is about to direct a movie on Florence. He's turned back to work with "renewed enthusiasm" on "I Fiorentini", the movie on the city of Florence that the director has described as "a dream of twenty years". Zeffirelli has announced it himself, also reminding that at the same time, he'll be directing on stage productions of "Medea" at Siracusa and "Rigoletto" at Mantova.
I have projects that I have had on my mind for decades, said Zeffirelli. I should have made "Tea with Mussolini" (1999) at the beginning of my carrier....but then life goes on and suddenly the pieces of the jigsaw just click together and the project takes off.
This is a translation from the Italian article found here.
Franco Zeffirelli was born Gianfranco Corsi in Florence in 1923. He's already shot a documentary on his city very early in his carrier, "Per Firenze" ("For Florence", 1966). He's directed many movies adapting plays of Shakespeare. Probably his most famous, and the one you all have to see if you can get your hands on it, is his "Romeo&Juliet", still the best on screen version (and I'm saying that although I loved Baz Luhrman's)
