    The sword Narsil.

During the first age, when elves and dwarves were on friendly terms, Telchar (a famous dwarven smith) forged a sword for Elendil.
This sword was named by the elves as: Narsil meaning “Light of Sun” (red light) and “Light of Moon” (white light).

It is said that the brightness of Narsil, when used in battle, would strike fear into the hearts of its enemies.

The sword itself was five feet long, from pommel to tip.
The guard and pommel design were inspired by the shape of a leaf and its steam, the pommel itself was hollow.
The blade was the sharpest even made in Middle-Earth.

On the inside edge of the pommel an inscription was written in Quenya, the runic language of Eregron:

"Narsil essenya, macil meletya Telchar carméron Návarotesse"

    It means:

    "Narsil is my name, a mighty sword;
    Telchar made me in Nogrod"

Because Narsil was of such length the scabbard was strapped at an angle on the side.
This way it would not drag on the ground.

    The sword Andúril.

The sword of Andùril, that was forged from the shards of Elendil’s sword Narsil, bears a Quenyan name meaning “Brilliant light of the west”.

This sword represented the hope of men and elves alike and also the fact that Aragon’s belief in its power was a symbol of his right to rule.

The only thing that differ Andúril from Narsil was the runic inscription it bore along the fuller, down the length of the blade.
It was written in Quenya and ran down both sides of the blade.

Near the hilt the details were made of amber representing the sun, at the narrowest end of the fuller, an inscription of the moon is found.
Both this inscriptions are interspersed at regular intervals by seven stars.

This three symbols were chosen to represent Elendil (by the stars) and his sons Anárion (by the sun) and Isildur (by the moon).

This same inscription was also added to the belt used to carry Andúril and also partly to the steel and brass plate that was added to the black scabbard.

    It reads as follows:

    "Anar
Nányë Andúril I né Narsil i macil Elendilo.
    Lercuvanten imoli Mordórëo.
    Isil."

    And its meaning is:

    "Sun
I am Andúril who was Narsil the swrord of Elendil.
Let the thralls of Mordor flee me.
    Moon."
