was borrowed, so I can't remember the title. I do remember there was a fascinating discussion of the connection--both etymological and in meaning--of all sorts of words used by Tolkien to mean something related to "twist", e.g.:
wright - ultimately, someone who twists metal
wrought - twisted
wraith - someone who's been twisted inside (morally maybe?)
wreath - branches twisted into a circle
wrath - state of being twisted up inside by anger
Anyway, I know what you mean about being broke, and now I've gone and done it: I bought Road just last night. I still haven't gotten a chance to get to my library, where I'm pretty sure they have a copy of "Monsters and Critics", which I desperately need to read again. (Then there's always the little issue of my other responsibilites in life: job, etc.!)
