The following letter was delivered to the Senate and read aloud by the elder Caius Caninius Rebilus, a distant relative of Lucius Servilius Casca:
Conscript Fathers,
I write to inform you of the situation in Bithynia et Pontus.
Two Galatian thanes approached me upon my arrival to resolve a land dispute. Since, the thanes have taken to arms against each other. I have dispatched a small force to see that things are resolved peacefully.
In the East, I have received reliable intelligence that the King of Cappadocia has been supplying cavalry to Marcus Aemilius Scaurus in Asia Province. Rather than use military force to stop the cavalry, I have instead elected to visit the King of Cappadocia in person to inquire as to this matter.
I have also sent one legion to garrison the city of Prusa, in western Bithynia, to protect Bithynia's border with the rebels in Asia Province, and to serve as a reserve force for any actions we undertake in that area of the world.
Such is the state of affairs in Bithynia et Pontus at the close of Februarius. May the Gods care for Rome and her People.
L. Servilivs Casca
Praetor, SPQR
