I seem to have locked myself out of the pent-house. I did not want to awaken my servants, and hope you might have a spare key?

Do we need to turn in our keys befor leaving the hotel?

I can hear music drifting out of the ballroom, and feel rather self consious standing there in nothing but a silk kimona. The young lady behind the counter looks at it with admiration as she hands me the key.

"Lady Ramesses, you have quite a bit of mail. All of this arrived this afternoon."

It looks like mother has actually taken time to write me a letter. There is a very thick envelope post marked Beverly Hills. Then there is an unusual amount of solicitations. Everybody seems to be wanting a handout and charity begins at home. I sit down in a comfortable chair in the lobby and open mother's letter.

    Darling Lara,

It grives me so to have you so far away. I hope you will be very cautious of that woman Fatatida. It was she who branded you so many years ago, and for me that was the last straw. You must also be very much on gaurd of the Pi~Ramesses cult. Your father insisted that these people were harmless. My opinion of them is very different. I never went into details about this with you. I simply wanted to remove you from all of it. I can understand your wanting to know more about your background and Egyptian heritage. I hope you will be able to put things in order and come home as soon as possible.

I loved your father very much, and am sure that he loved me too. Still, I had to protect you from what I consider an evil influence. That woman put a mark on you. She said it was to protect you. You may not even be aware of it. I had hoped that you would never know anything about it. Darling, they were useing you in a terrible sun worshiping ritual. I immediately fled, knowing that I could never return. Even your father could not take you away from me with out facing public ridicule. In the end he gave in. Now in this devious way he has you with him. He could have made his life here. He thought his duty was elsewhere.

It is a mother's duty to do what is best for her child. Even now I wonder about your poor father's death? In his own way he was a good man.

My thoughts and prayers are always with you. If I were not under contract to finish 'Son of the Sheik' I would come and fetch you right now!

I pray for your safe return.

    Love, always

    Mummy

Silently I make my way back to the pent-house.
