Decius Marius Curius listened to Lucius Tillius Cimber, Tribune of the Plebs, speak to the Senate. His head nodded in agreement with Cimber's assessment of the current trial and the people's dissatisfaction. When Cimber proposed his legislation S.C. Cimbrii Citizen Providentia, Decius Curius listened closely. As Cimber's final words cleared the air, Decius stood and addressed the Senate.
“Conscript Fathers, I support our tribune's proposal. This legislation will assure the people that the money received from the S.C. Caecili Fiscalis Privatus will be used to benefit those who are the very backbone of our Republic, the common man. As you all know, that law did not assign the money to any purpose other than to augment the treasury of Rome. What is our treasury used for, fellow Senators? It is used to finance our military and diplomatic missions. It is used to beautify our great city, maintain our roads, and various other civic works. Little of our treasury ever sees its way to benefit our less-blessed citizens. I ask you all to join with Cimber in, as he puts it, walking the walk of charity.”
Curius took his seat as another rose to address the assembly.
