The words to the lullaby go with this melody.

    Sleep, bonny babe
    And hear your mam sing
Tales of the sea that gave
    Life to me, chile,
    And how it did bring
Yer mam to this Irish Isle.

Once as a seal I swam
    To the shore
And shed my sleek coat of dark brown
    Yer da saw me then,
    And captured my heart...
But he ne'er gave me a weddin gown.

    Sleep, bonnie babe,
    And hear your mam sing...
I love him so well, my chile.
But your da left me here,
Though he gave me a ring
But love he gave only a while.

    So back, I go back,
    Back to the sea
I must leave ye here, my dear heart,
    For tis human your soul
    That you do now bear
But I Selkie born must depart.

    I leave all I love
    For e'er and a day,
But you will grow fine and strong.
    For Selkie is part
Of your loving heart, And you will ne'er do wrong.
Nay, you will ne'er go wrong.
