Nefertiti acknowledges the question, "Thank you, yes a good question, or perhaps three questions in one, but no matter, pertinent ones nonetheless."
"Why is this city named Akhet-Aten?. " She smiles, "Well when my husband, the King, was first searching for a new place to build our city, our God communicated with him and led him to this place. On the horizon are two hills, between them the great Aten shines forth everyday, bathing us with his light and life. Akhet-Aten means The Horizon of the Aten, so you can see, the name is well chosen."
Nefertiti gazes across her audience, noticing their rapt attention on her words.
"The Aten is our God, the one God. His light gives us life and shines upon us daily. Without him, we would wither. In our art, we depict the Aten as a solar disc with a uraeus. Rays extend in a fan shape and at the ends of the rays are small hands which offer the symbol of eternal life, the ankh." Nefertiti pauses a moment, "Now why did we choose this place, well, as I stated, it was our God which chose it, but also My husband wished to disassociate himself from the old Gods. The priests had become too powerful, too greedy, and settling away from Thebes effectively broke our link with Amun and his worship."
"Does that answer your questions?"
