    I know that its always fun to speculate "what if"s....

    However, it really doesn't matter if those bodies where the royal family or not. They were affectively removed from power and never had a chance of returning after 1923 anyway.

    In fact, I think the long term value of a "puppet" family would have helped the Communists not appear so blood thirsty and dangerous (loose canons) to the west and central europe.

    However, I think once the transition from power of Lenin to Stalin was complete, there really was no other viable option in the USSR until the collaspe of the party.

    That being said. I firmly believe that the Romanovs did not survie the revolution. If they were not killed where its popularly believed, than they were executed someowhere.
