    Alexander succeeded his unstable cousin Elgabalus as emperor, and a period of peace followed. Alexander however was a weak emperor dominated by his mother Julia and other women of the palace. Their administrative skill was good for the empire, but the soldiers would not be led by women, and eventually rebellion ended the reign of Alexander and ushered in the era of the soldier emperors. 222 - 235 AD ...
