Has anyone read the Brother Cadfael murder mysteries by Ellis Peters? He's a monk in the time of the civil war in England between the Empress Maud and King Stephen. Those are really clever books, chances are you won't know 'whodunnit' until you get to that page.

Another good author is Paul Docherty, who also writes medievael murder mysteries with Hugh Corbett as the detective, and he also writes Ancient Egyptian murder mysteries.

Those are really good.
