I think they were all stunning. There were some I liked least, but for personal taste and not for bad acting. Liv Tyler was great, I loved her voice; I was only put off because her storyline was a bit muddled (in ROTK - because in FOTR it made perfect sense to me that it was her to save Frodo and not Glorfindel; I only would have liked to see a more assertive Frodo), and her face, though beautiful, is, I don't know, a bit modern. I imagined a "wilder" beauty for Arwen. But her acting is really great; I must only think of the vision of her child in the woods or of her tears when imagining Aragorn's death.

Denethor... a compicated problem. I wanted to love him and fear him. Instead I just felt compassion, at best, and mostly irritation at his fretting. He lacked nobility, in my opinion. John Noble did a great work depicting a tormented leader, but he was tormented in a way that a general could be, not the virtual last lord of the West. The mangled storyline did not help. I don't worry much about changes in the plot if they make sense, but this one was really awkward.

A tiny problem with Galadriel. Not Cate's acting or her appearance, which are both incredible, but her role and some of the directions she was given. As a "narrator" in TTT she does much to influence the viewer into a negative view of Faramir. And in ROTK, when she pulls up Frodo in Shelob's lair... I don't know, she looked evil, I thought it was a trap. But I loved both her transformation at the Mirror and her "divine" farewell from Lothlorien.

Viggo, uhm. I know I'm risking my neck here, but I hasten to say that the "uhm" was elicited from me also while reading the book. Briefly put: I adore Strider... but King Elessar is a bit boring to me.

These are my tiny complaints... but the others! I love them all. Sean Bean shines. I was so pleasantly surprised by Bernard Hill, Hugo Weaving, and Billy Boyd and his incredible "hero's journey" from silly hobbit to warrior of Gondor! And I want a prequel - maybe not the Silmarillion, but maybe the Fall of Numenor, with the same guys playing Elendil, Isildur and Gil-Galad: Isildur is a hottie.

I know I'm forgetting someone I really loved... oh well, I'll be back... it's such a sweet sorrow!
