From what I heard, da Vinci Code is a nice story, and some (not much actually) of the story is factual, but much of it is just pure fiction.... exciting, but to take with a (heavy) grain of salt.
Also, attention to false and confusing revisionist history presented in the book about the heresy controversies, the Gospel canon (all false). In the book, it's claimed that Church burned five million woman as witches.. from where did he got that? Michelet? ot the Internet? well, it's just wrong, as many other data (perhaps not too important, but it stands for the lack of honesty or just plain ignorance of the author) The "Conspiracy Theory" about Mary Magdalene has been debunked... not mentioning the art analysis which has a lot of "holes"... so, exciting, but not to take everything literaly.
