I've never seen or held them. Back to Stonehenge v. Avebury, I've seen them both too, though it was the time after they put the ramps and fences around Stonehenge, so I never got near them. I agree with Brann, I preferred Avebury as well... being able to walk around them, touching the stones... and the story of the Barber Stone - did you hear that one?
I also went up to the Scottish Highlands and our guide took us to a fairy ring that had been around for centuries. It was a small one, and one had to walk around it backwards and make a wish! That place had a lovely, ethereal feel to it!
