Where is the Legion? When I first time saw this discussion board, I am surprised by the fact that no one ever mention The Legion of the old AncientSites. While there are other excellent groups that incorporates political and military RP into one, none of these groups have "in-depth" and extensive gameplay as much as the Legion. I can still remember the lists of military honours given to those victorious "generals" and a page showing how to purchase almost any kinds of Roman army units, from legionaries to cavarly (only for the praetor if I'm not wrong) The game is probably the most interesting role-playing game I ever played in AS and it kept me coming back for more each and everyday whenever I got the time after work. There are also much freedom in the gameplay for example I remembered there was this game situation where a series of barbarians assaults took place and several Roman towns and villages of the province Gallia Comata (where my legion was based) was raided and sacked. A Roman army send to put them to the sword was destroyed, and I actually suggested to my praetor that I be given additional Legions to cross the border and destroy these barbarians in their own backyard. My plan was accepted I was given half of the force garrisoned in the province and things work out fine until the next thing I knew, AncientSite is closing. Gameover.
While it is a enjoyable and successful game, I must also agree that it is also a excellent educational tool for Roman military history buffs by its intensive gameplay that not even a commerical Roman-based Strategy game can match. So as I hope, there will no longer be another gameover here in Ancientworld.
