Is this not a title? Like The Wizard?
All I have to go on about the great Merlin are the stories, and he comes across like a bad egg. His methods are demonic and I think selfish. In essence Melin contrives for the father of Arthur to rape his mother. Then the lawful husband [king] is murdered. The poor woman is deluded to think the imposter is her husband, but her lawful children know the truth. This is a bad begining if there ever was one.
The Queen had the right to pick her oun consort, and Merlin denied her that.
Wizards are not good magicians. They misuse their own lifeforce and their magic is perverted. This is a very ancient theory about the source of magical powers.
