There is a book by Jeannine Davis-Kimball, Ph.D. w/Mona Behan by the title of "Warrior Women: An Archeologist's Search for History's Hidden Heroines"

Reason I mention this book is because her research takes her to Kazkastan among other places.

On the back here's a small tease:

"Pursuing the truth from Asia to Ireland, Dr. Davis-Kimball discoverd:

. A troup of riding, sword-weilding women who were real, not a myth
. The secret of China's mysterious, mummified, auburn-haired priestesses
. The real identity of the fabulous "Gold Man" of Saka
. The origins of the Irish warrior queens whose sepulcheres remain on the fields of Eire"

I've not really gotten to read it yet (too much I'm trying to accomplish at the moment) but it sounds promising.
