Iapetus. One of the TITANS, and the son of Uranus (Heaven) and GAIA (earth). By an Oceanid, either Clymene or Asia, he was the father of the second-generation Titans Prometheus, Epimetheus, Atlas and Menotius (1). After the defeat of the Titans by Zeus, Iapetus was cast into the depths of TARTARUS, and here, says Homer, he sits for ever in the gloomy dark, far from the delights of sun and winds.
    [Homer, Iliad 8.478-81; Hesiod, Theogony 132-6, 507-11; Apollodorus 1.2.3]

    Tartarus.
