When the doors of the temple closed after Flaccus and his supporters, Verres knew the time had come. Alarmed, he turned quickly towards his mob and shouted:

FOLLOW ME now as I take the actions my office promises. Its time to reclaim our rights NOW. OPEN THE TEMPLE! OPEN THE TEMPLE!" His throng pushed ahead, a great many of which soon revealed their clubs and knives, and they quickly came into contact with those who blocked the temple's gates. They are under orders not to attack if this group makes way and allows Tribune Verres to perform the function of his office. Otherwise....
