well, when one becomes enamorated with japanese culture, one has to stumble on theater and masks... to begin with, I was more attracted by the beauty of some masks, but then, when one reads about their meaning, some other "not so beautiful" masks become quite interesting - also, the craft involved in mask making is incredible.
The Noh masks, when in stage, are not so bi-dimensional or non-expressive as one could think at first sight. The rotation of the head, the light and shadow effect, creates changeability. You can see what I am talking about, here!
