Always according to the Chinese historians, the last of the sage kings, Yu, founded a dynasty of kings, the Hsia. This dynasty ended with the rule of Chieh, who was decadent and cruel. In 1766 BC, the Hsia was overthrown by T'ang, who began a new dynasty, the Shang.
All those accounts of the early civilization in China have no archaeological evidence, so scholars tend to see the "Cultural Heroes", the "Sage Kings" and the Hsia dynasty as myth. Still, we should perhaps not forgot, that what is important, even in terms of history, is the cultural memory that helps to shape a all civilization. Another point: Shang dynasty that the Chinese claimed followed the Hsia, was also believed to be a myth until archaeological evidence appeared in the 1920's. So....
