My son and I were beside our small house repairing our makeshift wood litter. I hear the familiar voice of my brother in law and call out to him. In a moment I see his sun worn face peer around the corner of the house.
"There you are. We're just leaving to gather firewood. I know Moses said one lamb for each household, but he said not to waste any either. Since we're all family, I guess its a good thing to have our last dinner in this wretched place together."
Glancing over to see where my son is, I step closer to Rayder and speak quietly. "I mean I can't wait to go, but are we doing the right thing?"
My brother in law's expression was enough, he didn't need to answer. We were all afraid, but we have no love for this place. We'll do whatever it takes to get our families to freedom.
I firmly rest my hand on his shoulder and muster my best smile. "All will be well!" I hear myself say. "We'll be back soon with the firewood. And after tonight, we go to the land promised to our fathers!"
