Hopefully I will have the energy. This planning is exhausting.
I am not certain on this, but I am thinking that it will be two different celebrations. Well, not really, but there will be a caravan.
One question...are we going from Lugdunum to Tara or are we going from Tara to Lugdunum? I think, after thinking about it, that we should start off in the earliest origins of Celts in Europe, and go from there. Basically the first runner will come from the Danube Basin, then Galatia, then Gaul, Iberia, Abla, then Eire. Finishing off in Tara and a huge celebration at Tara. It would be everyone from all of the Ancient Worlds partying there.
Perhaps a sitewide relay?
Of course we need to come up with ideas for other activities to do. I have been focusing more on the day spent in Gaul. It is said that there is not concrete evidence as Beltane being celebrated in Gaul, but then the Coligny Calendar lists it as being a major holiday.
So Beltane is the celebration of many things. Hunting Season again. Warring season. And the planting of the grain and other crops.
How do we incorporate the three in one? Easy.
Lumberjack Competition: The lumberjack competition will be a test of skill. The contest will take part in three different ways. First, the lumberjack will fall the tree. Next, the lumberjack will trim the tree. Finally, the lumberjack will destump the tree.
Pig hunt: The contestants only have one option for catching the greased pig, their hands. No weapons are allowed. THis is a contest of footwork and reflexes.
Feast: The largest pig from the previous contest is cooked and all are welcome to feast. There will also be celebrations such as sending the runner off to the next runner.
