Huitzilopochtli was the main Aztec god. He was a god of war and of the sun. According to myth, he donned battle armor and war paint already in the womb! why? because his mother´s pregancy was seen as a disgrace to the family and his older sister and brothers wanted to kill his mother. Of course Huitzilopochtli destroyed his brothers in his mother´s defence and threw his sister down the Templo Mayor so that her body broke when hitting the ground below. Since that day, priests handle prisoners the same way in a recreation of the myth so that these events surrounding the birth of the god of war shall live in theminds of the people.

Huitzilopochtli is said to be same as Queatzalqoatl so I guess I´ll go find us something about him next!

Hiutzilopochtli´s mother was Coatlicue by the way, his sister Coyolxauhqui and his brothers were called the Centzon Huitznahua, which means the Four Hundred Stars. Is there a spell checker for this language? *g*
